As managing editor for Schlumberger, an extraction (oil and gas) technology company, Homer Starkey’s job isn’t to drill for oil, but for leads. “Basically, we’re sales people,” he says of his team. “We’re not in front of the customer, but we have to think like a sales person.
Schlumberger’s audience demands facts and evidence, and has little patience with stuff that’s merely cute or clever. “Here’s what we’ve learned,” says Homer. “There’s stuff that wins awards. And there are things that sell products — and that’s what we have to aim for.”
In the upcoming content creation team ebook, Homer will share his observations regarding:
- Why training and education are critical for building effective teams
- How collaboration is facilitated by encouraging team members to challenge each other
- Why everyone on the team has license to stop any project
- How “bottom-up” idea generation works to the company’s advantage
Next up: Ryan Petersen talks about content leadership at CDW.
